CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test) General Information

The CAT4 is a reasoning assessment used by schools worldwide to understand how a student thinks and solves unfamiliar problems, rather than what they've been taught in class. It's commonly used at admission points and to help schools plan teaching and support for each student.

The test is delivered in four batteries — verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning — split across three short sittings. Since it measures reasoning rather than taught content, schools often say "no preparation is needed," but students unfamiliar with the question formats can still underperform relative to their actual ability, which is where focused practice helps.

Who can take this Exam?

Students applying to schools that use the CAT4 as part of their admissions process, typically at transition points such as new-school entry, often join an exam prep institute to get comfortable with the question formats beforehand. The test is delivered at different levels calibrated to age, so students from primary through secondary school age can prepare for it.

Format & Registration

The CAT4 runs across three sittings totalling a little over an hour of question time, plus instructions and short breaks, and is administered by the school itself rather than booked independently by families. Because timing, sitting level and process are set by each individual school, it's best to confirm the exact schedule and any admissions deadlines directly with the school your child is applying to. Your education center can help you plan preparation timelines around that.

How We Work

01

Baseline reasoning check

We run a short session across verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial questions to see which battery needs the most attention.

02

Book a trial class

Sit in on a free 45-minute session built around real CAT4-style question types, so you know exactly what to expect.

03

Battery-by-battery practice

We focus sessions on the specific reasoning areas your child needs most, instead of treating all four batteries the same.

04

Schedule around your child's age group

We build a timetable that fits your child's school routine and the level appropriate to their age.
